Why This Role Exists

Beltways is seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our fast-paced startup building the world’s first modular accelerating walkway. The Mechanical Engineer will take the technical lead in developing Beltways’ next generation products. 

This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of the fastest growing startups in the mass transit industry.

Role Responsibilities

  • Drive the end-to-end design process for parts and assemblies in 3D and 2D.
  • Create precise 2D drawings using GD&T standards, guaranteeing clarity in manufacturing processes.
  • Utilize advanced design methodologies (FMEA, GD&T, FEA, DFM, DOE’s) to implement robust engineering solutions.
  • Integrate sensors for various measurement applications, including force, acceleration, pressure, temperature, and displacement.
  • Develop comprehensive build and assembly instructions, streamlining manufacturing for efficient production.
  • Support the physical assembly of prototype builds.
  • Translate intricate specifications into clear component and subsystem requirements for higher-level systems.
  • Lead critical technical reviews, presenting detailed designs with a focus on effective communication within the team.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers, ensuring alignment with design, manufacturing, and commercial requirements.
  • Assist in quality control processes for inbound and outbound parts and products, maintaining high standards.
  • Verify compliance with code standards, including, ASME A17.1, during design and validation phases.
  • Develop and test mechanical systems and structures according to established test plans.
  • Establish manufacturing processes and procedures to optimize efficiency and quality.
  • Mentor fellow engineers, emphasizing rigor, analytics, and adherence to proven engineering standards.
  • Collaborate proactively with the Beltways team, contributing to the advancement of technical and company culture goals.

Required Skills

  • Candidates should have a working knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering best practices.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field from a four-year college or technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 10 years of industry experience, or less if experience is highly relevant.
  • Extensive experience with NX.
  • Experience using NX Simulation, Autodesk Sim or SolidWorks Simulation is preferred.
  • Experience in PDM and PLM strongly preferred.
  • Experience in mobility, automotive or conveyor industries is a plus.  
  • Proficient with GD&T (ASME Y-14.5M) design and drawing practices.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles, system design & analysis (FEA, CFD, thermal analysis).
  • Self-starter with a results-driven personality.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills to participate in a fast-paced, action-oriented team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present to customers, suppliers and/or internal teams.
  • Excellent critical and creative thinking, time management, conflict management, and teamwork.

Outcomes

  • You will generate concepts or will use already developed concepts and take each system through the development cycle of design reviews, documentation creation, analysis, safety, performance verification and integration with higher level systems.  
  • You will be responsible for the development of the critical test equipment and fixtures that support the development effort of the core systems.
  • You will design to code standards to ensure the final product meets the required level of safety.
  • You will also be performing important aspects of technical lead duties including multiple design & technical interchange reviews and status reviews.
  • You may be assisted by a team of mechanical and automation engineers and will coordinate their time in a way that best meets the company’s needs.  
  • Your work will be achieved through collaboration with other technical and non-technical members of the Beltways team. 
  • You will help drive design, sourcing, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and commissioning of systems.
